Foreword

Dear participant in the Four Days Marches, For the second year in a row, you are receiving an online Four Days Marches Magazine right around the time we would have liked to welcome some 45,000 walkers to Nijmegen. Once again, De Wedren remains empty, but fortunately we are not sitting on our hands. Our hope, through the Alternative Four Days Marches, is to help create that special Four Days Marches feeling with you this week - and not only in Nijmegen, but throughout the Netherlands and in many other corners of the world too. From 20 to 23 July, we will be walking separately but still, in spirit, together. And because participating is more important than the performance we put in, especially this year, you can take part by walking distances of between 5 and 50 kilometres. We sincerely hope that we can organise our event again next year, and that we can walk together again with participants from all over the world, with thousands of spectators lining the route, with music, flags and all the other traditions that create that special atmosphere and camaraderie that are so characteristic of the Four Days Marches. Knowing that thousands of people, both in the Netherlands and abroad, will be taking part in the Alternative Four Days Marches during this year’s Four Days Marches week, we hope and expect that you will still be able to experience some of that special Four Days Marches feeling this year. We would like to wish everyone lots of success and loads of fun. Stay healthy - and see you again next year in Nijmegen. On behalf of all staff, volunteers and partners, Henny Sackers, March Coordinator
